This is one of several entry points for the Stones River Greenway in Murfreesboro, TN, but one I didn't know about until this day. Let's take a moment to enjoy the fall leaves and the babbling brook.

Video: Scenic Drives of TN | Chapman Highway | Knoxville to Sevierville

Chapman highway is the old route many vacationers have taken to get to the Smoky Mountains. It follows highway US 441 from east of the Tennessee River in downtown Knoxville into Sevierville.

For the purpose of this video, we start at the I-40 exit for US 441, cross the river in downtown Knoxville, follow the highway through the suburbs and into the country. Once in Sevierville, we follow the two right turns and head part of the way to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Along the way, we see lots of kudzu, old motels, and billboards for attractions, old and new.

Video: Suck Creek Highway

This is part 3 in a SeeMidTN.com series of scenic drives around Chattanooga.
There are 3 versions of this video:
Regular: https://youtu.be/ONunCvkAsO0
Extended: https://youtu.be/spKzPfTmUcQ
Extended with Commentary: https://youtu.be/Q5MfwUZshSY

Previous Scenic Drives around Chattanooga:
1) W Road - https://youtu.be/UoEMb9CCmCs
2) US127 down Signal Mountain - https://youtu.be/ezIBtEmIudE

This highway was completed in the early 1920s and was the most difficult stretch of the early North-South cross-county road, the Dixie Highway. Yet, it also became one of the most scenic stretches of the entire route.

In the commentary, I discuss how the road got its name, why it was difficult to build the road, how the Dixie Highway was rerouted and points of interest along the route.

Video: Days Gone By Museum - Portland, TN

There is a not well known museum in the small town of Portland, TN which is worth the drive from Nashville. It started as a private collection of tractors, but has expanded to much more, including multiple forms of transportation: Cars (hot rods, race cars, Volkswagens, 1920s, etc.), trucks, motorcycles, fire engines, a couple of planes and a caboose. Other highlights include vintage toys, cameras, and Maytag.

If you'd like to see a gallery of the items in this video, check here:

Video: Gatlinburg's Abandoned Chair Lift

While the Sky Lift has been around for decades and Anakeesta has been opened for a few years, there's a third chair lift in Gatlinburg which has been abandoned for over 20 years. Fun Mountain was a small theme park which opened in 1993 and closed in 2000. All the other rides were removed about a decade later, but the chair lift has remained in disrepair. The machinery is all rusted and the chairs are still overhead but trees have grown through them. This place is now a parking lot.

Video: Scenic Old Roads of Chattanooga #1 - Signal Mountain's W Road

This video is the first in a series of dashcam videos driving the scenic and historic mountain roads in the Chattanooga Area. The W road is an old road which ascends the side of Walden's Ridge in the Signal Mountain area of Chattanooga. It gets it's name from the W shape of three hairpin turns near the top. The road was first created in 1873, was widened in 1927 and is virtually unchanged since 1940. The historic stone guardrails can be seen at 5:15 in the video. The "W" hairpin turns begins at 5:50. The photo in the thumbnail is from the Library of Congress and was taken in 1907.

Video: Motch Falls waterfall in Claiborne County, East Tennessee

Here is a waterfall in East Tennessee which is easy to walk to, but you have to drive into the middle of nowhere to find it.

I started in Middlesboro, KY and drove highway 186 west from town. After it crosses the Tennessee border, it becomes highway TN132. About two to three miles south of the state line, you'll be able to see the waterfall on the east side of the road and there will be a gravel parking pull-off.

Christmas Lights at the Coffee County Courthouse, Manchester, TN

The Coffee County courthouse in the town square or Manchester, TN has a Christmas light show set to music. I have uploaded five videos of the songs from their light show. This song is Wizards in Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which seems to be the song of choice for Christmas Light Displays on YouTube.

I apologize for the audio quality. This is still a town square and cars were driving by. I tried to pick from my recordings the ones with the least amount of traffic. Also, the speaker playing the music is coming from inside the courthouse, I think.

There are four more videos of the lights set to music available:

Carol of the Bells

Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

a 5th song I don't know the name of. (maybe you can help me out.)

Cream City Ice Cream sign (video)

One of the prettiest signs I've ever seen, and on my third visit to the old depot district of Cookeville, TN, the sign was lit up in all it's glory. It's not always on, but the owners apparently fixed it, so they could have it on more often.
