Roxy Theater - Franklin, KY

I was fortunate that this classic car happened to drive by while I was here. From the comments I received, it's a 1937 Chevy 2-door sedan, which is perfect for the age of the theater.

The Roxy Theater is a Cinema in Franklin, KY which dates back to 1938. It operated as a theater until the 1960s when it was converted into municipal offices. In the last few years, the theater has been converted back into an event venue.

Video: Days Gone By Museum - Portland, TN

There is a not well known museum in the small town of Portland, TN which is worth the drive from Nashville. It started as a private collection of tractors, but has expanded to much more, including multiple forms of transportation: Cars (hot rods, race cars, Volkswagens, 1920s, etc.), trucks, motorcycles, fire engines, a couple of planes and a caboose. Other highlights include vintage toys, cameras, and Maytag.

1961 Corvette - Franklin on the Fourth

This 1961 Corvette was one of several classic cars on display along Main Street for the Franklin on the Fourth celebration in 2016.

Post Card Tuesday: Johnny Cash's One Piece at a Time Cadillac

One od Johnny Cash's most iconic songs was "One piece at a time." It's the story of an automobile assembly line worker who would take smuggle home one piece of a car every day until he was able to put together an entire car. Until his death, Cash had a museum in Hendersonville along Johnny Cash Highway (US31E). The building which used to be the museum is still there today, although today it is a real estate agency. I Dream of Weenie hot dog stand

This popular place to get a hot dog is located in a converted VW bus in East Nashville's trendy Five Points neighborhood. If you hadn't guessed it yet, the name is a play on the 1960's TV sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. The logo on the sign depicts a hot dog that looks like genie Barbara Eden. Also, check out the hot dog flower pots on the railing.

DMC DeLorean - Franklin on the Fourth

This DeLorean DMC-12 was one of several classic cars on display along Main Street for the 2016 Franklin on the Fourth celebration.

Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

I was able to mark one item off my bucket list in 2016 when I was able to finally photograph the iconic yet elusive Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. I'm not sure why this became so important to me, but along the way I acquired a plush version along with a hot wheel of the noteworthy car.

Then, in the spring of 2016 I went to my regular grocery store and there it was! I only had the camera on my phone, but there it was. Then, when I got out of my car, it drove off because it had to visit a dozen more grocery stores that weekend.

I don't they plan their stops too far in advance, but it's tough to find out where they will be. The only way to track it is with their app, which never worked to well for me.

Then, I learned they would be at the 4th of July celebration in downtown Franklin, TN, so I made sure that is how I would spend my holiday. I found it, and it was parked right next to the county courthouse on 3rd Ave. I also got a Wienerwhistle for my son.

Cannon Courthouse & Car Show

My wife and I were travelling to Woodbury, TN one Saturday afternoon in the fall. We stopped at a restaurant on the town square, and while we were eating, a bunch of classic cars pulled up to the square and a car show broke out. A friend from town says these shows are frequent in Woodbury.

The Car in the photo is a Camaro Z28. 2017 is the 50th year of the Camaro.

David's Old Fords - Columbia, TN

Late 40's Chrysler Police Car

There is a storage facility north of Bristol, VA along the old Lee Highway (US11) that features a series of vintage motel signs as well as this vintage police car. Also, here is the Robert E Lee Motel Sign which used to be just south of here.

Cooter's Place Dukes of Hazzard Museum

Cooter's is located in Music Valley, the touristy area of Nashville near Opryland Hotel. With another location in Gatlinburg, the Dukes of Hazzard Museum is owned by Ben Jones who played Cooter Davenport on the show. Of course, what everyone wants to see is outside the museum as the General Lee is on display along with Cooter's tow truck. One more fun fact: Ben Jones was a U.S. Congressman from Georgia after being on the show.

Old Car City, USA - White, GA

Walk 6 miles of trails!

Located along highway US411, this roadside attraction might be the perfect spot for the old car lover.

This place opened as a car dealership in 1931. At some point over the years, the business became a junkyard. As the decades went by, they kept adding more cars (over 4,000) and expanded to 34 acres. At some point, they realized they were better off as a tourist attraction than a junkyard. They offer the chance to see classic car relics up through the 70s.

I didn't even know this place existed when I drove past it. They were already closed for the day. I didn't even realize it was a tourist destination when I stopped, as I just wanted to take a picture of their fence, which had their name spelled out in hubcaps. According to their website, they have two different admission prices, depending on whether or not you're going to bring a camera. $25 if you are going to take photos and $15 if you are not. oldcarcityusa.com/

This classic Gas Station architecture is now home to a service station. The car in the photo is apparently a 1956 Nomad.

Cannon County Courthouse & Car Show

My wife and I were travelling to Woodbury, TN one Saturday afternoon in the fall. We stopped at a restaurant on the town square, and while we were eating, a bunch of classic cars pulled up to the square and a car show broke out. My father-in-law has a '49 Plymouth that he takes to shows, but beyond that, I don't know what I'm looking at. My interest is more in courthouses, and I thought this made for an interesting photo opportunity.

Other readers helped me out to identify the cars seen here:
The beautiful black coupe in front is a '37 Chevy for sure. Not a good enough view of the red one behind it to say for sure, the missing hood-sides are a hindrance, but it looks like a '36 Chevy. The red pick-up is a '55 thru '57 Chevy, the unique difference between those years is the grilles which we can't see in this shot.

Beaman Motors Neon Sign

For decades, this sign was on Broadway (US 431/70S) in Nashville, with the vertical part reading Pontiac. The sign was taken down a year ago last March for several reasons. As they refurbished the sign, they updated it since they're more than just a Pontiac dealer now. They also wanted the sign to be visible from Interstate 40, so it has been newly positioned along another side of their property. The Beaman name is well known in Nashville.

1932 Helicron - Lane Motor Museum

Lane Motor Museum - Nashville, TN
Constructed in 1932, this one-of-a-kind propeller driven car was discovered in a barn in France in 2000 having been placed there by the original owner in the late 30's. Little could be seen of it through the rubble. It was completely rebuilt but many of the mechanical components are original, such as the frame, wire wheels, dashboard, steering wheel, steering gear, brake pedal, light switch, headlights, and the type plate. The wood frame was sandblasted and treated. The steering gear was rebuilt, and the interior was upholstered. The car steers with the rear wheels and only those wheels have springs. It is currently equipped with a Citroen GS engine with the propeller coupled directly to the crankshaft. The Helicron passed the French safety inspection in 2000 and is approved for use on their roads.

If you like old card, the Lane Museum is a place for you, as they have all types of vintage European cars. The museum is located in the old Sunbeam Bread Factory on Murfreesboro Road.

Marathon Motor Works logo

There used to be cars made in Nashville, but of course it was nearly 100 years ago. The building still remains and has been converted to offices with the old Marathon Logo painted on the side of the building.
