Trousdale County Courthouse at Night

This courthouse is the third to be built in Hartsville, after the first one burned down in 1901 and it's replacement also burned down just two years later. Completed in 1906, this courthouse is made out of brick on a stone foundation. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Hartsville Historic District.

The top of the courthouse features stepped gables in front of a small cupola on the hip roof. Along the front, brick bands provide decoration, as well as an entry porch. One story additions have been added to either side. Since my previous visit five years earlier, several trees have been removed making it easier to view the courthouse architectural details.

Part of me feels this would be fun. Part of me feels this would be tough work on a hot day to just save a couple of dollars. Agritourism places like this seem to be more popular these days that when I was growing up. Or perhaps they've always been around and I'm just now learning about them. This specific place is along highway US231 in Trousdale County just north of the Cumberland River.

I'm not in a mood to get political, but hey there's something you can't ignore when April 15th comes around. Luckily, if you stumble across this and you haven't done them yet, you've got a couple of bonus days this year!

In the 1960's while planning for the upcoming need for more electricity, TVA bought some land off the Cumberland River in Trousdale County. Plans called for a Cooling Tower for the Hartsville Nuclear Power Plant. Construction started on the plant in 1975. It got this far to make what you see here, but in 1984, the plans were cancelled. I don't want to think about how much money was spent on it.
