Opryland Ballroom Mural: Jackson Statue & Capitol

In Opryland Hotel's original ballroom area, the walls are painted to depict scenes from Nashville around the time of Tennessee's Centennial, in the late 1800's. To view the entire set of 8, Click Here.

The Tennessee State Capitol was designed by William Strickland, who also designed the U.S. Capitol. The building was finished in 1859. The Andrew Jackson riding statue was completed soon thereafter, and an identical statue was placed in New Orleans and one in Washington D.C. near the capitol.

This Christmas tree is made up of red and white flowers that spiral to the top. It is located inside the lobby of the main entrance to Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

Located in the Opryland Hotel Garden Conservatory are these large decorations hanging from the ceiling. They are a large music symbol surrounded by a ring of white Christmas light strands.

Opryland Hotel doesn't have just any snowman for their Country Christmas celebration. Their snowmen have tree limbs for arms. Plus this one can play the banjo and the harmonica!

The Lion Strums tonight

Nothing says "Christmas" like a mandolin-playing robed lion suspended from the ceiling from a parachute in Opryland Hotel's Conservatory Gardens. To round out the band, there was a cello playing giraffe, a panda bear on Saxophone and a non-illuminated zebra (so I couldn't tell what he was playing).

When you drive by opryland, they always have a really, really tall string of lights, and at the base are these poinsettia lights.

For those of you who are familiar with camera filters...To think I was never going to use my Snow Cross filter (aka starburst 6 point), I've now found a use for it.

To view the entire set of 8, Click Here. I can only assume these are still in place since the May 2010 Flood, as I haven't been back to Opryland since then.

Jubilee Hall, dedicated in January 1876, is one of the oldest structures continuously in use for educational purposes by the African American community. Today, the six-story building serves as a residence for first-year female students. Over the years, as many as three generations of women in the same family--grandmother, mother, and daughter--have at different times occupied the same dormitory suite, making Jubilee Hall one of the most cherished buildings on the campus. Jubilee Hall has received recognition from the State of Tennessee in the form of a historical marker denoting the structure's significance. In 1976 the National Park Service designated Jubilee Hall as a National Historic Landmark.

It's good to know that Opryland Hotel is back in business again. It's now been about three weeks since it reopened following the May flood damage. It's about time for me to get back out there and see what 2010 decorations they have and what else is new for 2010.

Opryland Hotel is still closed due to the recent flooding. Hopefully, this area was unaffected. In Opryland Hotel's original ballroom area, the walls are painted to depict scenes from Nashville around the time of Tennessee's Centennial, in the late 1800's.

Belmont Mansion is the 1853 home of prominent Nashvillian Adelicia Acklen. The grounds of the mansion today make up Belmont University campus. For more information, see: www.belmontmansion.com/home.htm
