Fayette County Courthouse - Somerville, TN

In Feb 1926, Fayette County's third courthouse burned down. The county acted quickly to have a new one built in the town square as within 6 weeks architect George Mahan Jr. designed this courthouse. It was completed the following year at a cost of $106,000.

Much of the exterior is made of buff-colored brick. At the main entrance is as entry portico with 4 Ionic columns. Above this on the roof is a copper domed roof and clock tower. The building went through extensive remodeling in the 80s. The courthouse is also listed on the National register of Historic Places as part of the Somerville Historic District.

Cogbill's General Store - LaGrange, TN

This General Store in LaGrange, TN dates back to the 1860s when William Peter Lipscomb opened a business. That business was lost due to a 1900 tornado. Lipscomb opened a new store at this location and was passed down through the family as Charles Lipscomb Cogbill operated the store in the 1960s. In 1991, Lucy Cogbill reopened the store with Sherri Bruner-Osteen. A fire in 1998 destroyed the 1901 building and this store was soon rebuilt.

La Grange United Methodist Church

This Methodist church is seen along highway TN57 in the small Fayette County town of La Grange. This building was built in 1928 after the previous building was destroyed by a tornado. It is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the La Grange Historic District.

Main Street Trading Post - Oakland, TN

Oakland is a small town in Southwest Tennessee in Fayette County.

The Oakland Presbyterian Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I am not sure how old the building is but a plaque near the door says the congregation was organized in 1888.

Reliable Furniture Barn

Here is a very faded advertising barn seen along US 64 in southwest Tennessee. The letters are very faded, but is looks like the top line is SAVE MONEY, the middle line is RELIABLE and at bottom is FURNITURE CO. If you stay on US64, it will take you into Somerville where according to google, there is or was a Reliable Furniture store. The barn is near the small community of Laconia.
