The McMinn County Courthouse was built in 1964 in the center of the Athens, TN town square. It was built to replace the previouse courthouse of 1875, which burned down in the middle of a renovation project. The building is a contemporary classically-inspired deisgn by the Knoxville architects Galloway and Guthrie. The building features a six column projecting pedimented entry portico and a tall clock tower.
